Speech Therapy Ideas For Students With Autism: Communication at Home-Laundry

By Rosemarie Griffin

Working on communication skills in the home environment is so very important for students with autism! Today I want to share with you how you can embed communication into the daily living skill of laundry.

I don’t know about you but I do a lot of laundry!! Having your child help you with the laundry can be fun and engaging. Don’t forget to get your FREE PDF download by putting your email in down below.

We can work on one step directions.

  • Get the basket.
  • Put it in the washer.
  • Fold the towel.
  • Get the shirt.

We can work on labeling nouns and actions.

  • Towel
  • Shirt
  • Folding
  • Drying
  • Basket

Children want to help out and this is a fun way to work on some communication at the same time! Our free printable can be put right in the laundry room or on the fridge. There is even a little spot where they can check that they helped with laundry that day!

Make sure to also watch my video about communication at home!
