Cultural Humility In Care: Guidelines For applying Cultural Humility In Practice ASHA and ACE

This is a self-paced course. It is ASHA and ACE-approved for CEUs.

This course is a 2 hour diversity course for ASHA and a 2 hour ethics talk for ACE. 

Description: This presentation will explore considerations of multicultural framework and daily application in practice promoting truly inclusive and competent care and practice. Throughout this
journey we will discuss foundational components of cultural development and their impact. We will also discuss the landscape and general landscape of how specific areas can be improved in
addition to useful strategies, tools, and resources. Additionally, we will discuss continued development and self-reflection.

Presented By: Cassandra Wilson, MA, BCBA, LBA, LBS

Cassandra Wilson is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS) graduate school professor, active practitioner dedicated to providing ABA across settings and disseminating the science in a multitude of settings across the lifespan. Cassandra continues to work tirelessly to improve behavioral outcomes in the educational settings, enhance and develop training for all staff levels and increase the awareness of collaborative and culturally sensitive care models for success and reducing barriers to effective support. Cassandra possesses an extensive 14 years of experience working with a variety of age ranges and settings. Her foundational experience includes working within children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, Autism and other co-occurring mental health disorders.

• 5 Minute Introduction Activity

• 15 minutes: Defining cultural humility vs competence and reviewing disparities in care and impact of cultural diversity, and humility.

• 10 Minutes- Complexities of Intersectionality

• 15 minutes: Considerations for identifying effective strategies to implement when working with diverse families.

• 15 minutes: Areas of focus for parent training and consideration of areas targeted

• 15 minutes Considerations for culturally sensitive teaching , mentorship and supervision

• 15 minutes : Considerations for promoting cultural humility in leadership and organizational standards

• 15 Maintaining the work- self reflection and continuing education.

• 5- minutes closing statements and resources

• 10 minutes : Q & A
