Collaborative Clarity: Speech & AAC Essentials

This is a self-paced collection of our 2 most popular Speech and AAC courses. Each course is 1 hour in length and is ASHA and ACE-approved.

The courses included are: Shape It Up: Collaboration for Speech Clarity Success and Collaboration Between SLPs and BCBAs during AAC Assessment, Selection, and Trial Periods.

Shape It Up: Collaboration for Speech Clarity Success 

Description: This training equips Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) with a collaborative rubric for selecting and implementing five targeted strategies to shape speech production. Drawing from both developmental and behavioral foundations, the session focuses on:

• Use of Time Delay/Delay to Reinforcement
• Improving Vocalizations within Requesting
• Developmentally anchored speech targets
• Phonetic Hand Cues (PHCs)

Successive approximations toward speech targets through video examples and interactive instruction, participants will learn how a decision- making rubric can be used to co-identify appropriate strategies and implement them within a shared treatment framework. Emphasis is placed on assent-informed care, individualized responsiveness, and clear communication across disciplines.

Collaboration Between SLPs and BCBAs during AAC Assessment, Selection, and Trial Periods

Description: Explore AAC collaboration between SLPs and BCBAs through shared
models, overlapping scopes of practice, and common points of conflict. Using the
interprofessional education collaborative (IPEC) framework (Slim & Reuter-Yuill,
2021), we’ll analyze real case examples to highlight effective teamwork in
assessment, device programming, vocabulary selection, and implementation planning.
