Bio: Kate has worked as a speech-language pathologist in the acute care hospital setting in a large tertiary hospital for seven years. She works in the Neuroscience department, specializing in the neurological, stroke and neurosurgical population. She has a special interest in communication disorders, including helping people with aphasia and those who are non-verbal due to intubation, trach or otehr neurological disorders, communicate.

Course Description: : In this course, participants will learn about communication barriers in intubated or non-verbal patients in the medical setting. They will learn practical steps to initiating an AAC program in their own institution. Lastly, they will learn about various types of communication tools and boards to include in their own Communication Tool Kit.
