AAC Mastery for SLPs and BCBAs

This is a self-paced 10 hour course. It is ASHA and ACE approved and counts as CEUs for both Speech Therapists and BCBAs

Learning Objectives for the courses:

Participants will:

• Identify the sections that must be included in an evaluation report when applying for an insurance-funded speech-generating device.
• Examine the role of motor planning in speech and language development and discuss how this applies to populations who use AAC.
• Apply principles of motor learning to AAC design and review implementation strategies to enhance learner outcomes.
• Be able to describe what vocabulary to choose for early learners who are new to aac.
• Describe 2 of the complementary roles SLPs and BCBAs share in AAC intervention.
• Identify 3 evidence-based AAC teaching strategies from both disciplines.
• Describe 3 common  AAC training implementation errors and what we can do instead.
• Be able to describe the AAC alignment strategy.
• Identify and apply 3  practical strategies to support AAC use across daily routines while addressing common classroom barriers.
• Be able to apply principles of motor learning, and user-directed communication to select and justify an appropriate access method.
• Evaluate cultural and linguistic bias in AAC assessment practices and implement culturally responsive, dynamic assessment strategies for CLD students.
• Design culturally responsive AAC interventions that integrate family-centered practices and address the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communicators.
• Describe three core principles of AAC implementation (e.g., modeling, use of core vocabulary, device accessibility).
• Be able to analyze the relationship between positioning, access method (direct touch, eye gaze, switch), and communication outcomes by identifying at least two factors that influence access efficiency and user agency in AAC systems.

For ACE CEUs fill out the ACE evaluation that is under the course video of the last module, an ACE certificate will be sent to your inbox, upload this to the BACB portal, this course counts as 10 general learning CEUs for BCBAs.
