After a few years “on the job” SLPs and BCBAs may be asked to mentor or supervise graduate students, Clinical Fellows, or those pursuing the BCBA credential. Unfortunately, learning how to be a useful and effective mentor was not part of the mentor’s graduate school experience and learning important skills are left to be gained through professional development courses or trial and error.
