Applying Behavioral Theory in the Moment: A Practical Guide for RBTs

This 1-hour training is designed to help Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) strengthen their ability to interpret and respond to client behavior through a behavioral lens during live sessions. The training introduces three key behavioral theories and translates them into practical strategies RBTs can apply moment-to-moment. By connecting theory to real clinical scenarios, participants will learn how environmental variables influence behavior allocation, persistence, and relapse—and how their own decisions (e.g., reinforcement delivery, prompting, response requirements) shape client behavior. The training emphasizes quick decision-making skills to improve intervention effectiveness, reduce problem behavior, and promote skill acquisition during everyday sessions.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

Attendees will be able to simply describe basic behavioral theories.

They will identify how these theories impact behavior allocation, reinforcement patterns, and behavioral persistence.

Attendees will review case examples to help improve their ability to make in-the-moment decisions during treatment sessions.
